Modbury travel to Coopers Stadium on Saturday 14 September to face Cumberland in the State League 1 Grand Final, with kick off at 2:00pm.

The Jets earned their place in the decider by beating Sturt 2-1 over two legs in the Semi-Final, following up a 1-0 away win with a 1-1 draw at home. Cumberland have made their way to the Grand Final the hard way, prevailing in three sudden-death matches against WT Birkalla (4-1 after extra time), Western Strikers (2-1) and Sturt Lions (3-2).

It’s first versus fourth, with the Jets finishing a massive 21 points ahead of their Grand Final opponent but in a one-off match that counts for nothing. With both sides having secured promotion to the Premier League in 2020 it could be argued that this is a ‘dead rubber’ but the players will relish the opportunity to play for silverware and the right to be crowned 2019 State League 1 Champions. For Modbury, it would cap off a remarkable season while Cumberland will be looking to prove they underachieved in the league by knocking off the Jets.

Both teams boast decorated and experienced players who have proven themselves at the highest level in SA and it promises to be a match of great quality. Modbury probably has the edge with players fit and rested after the week off, and key personnel returning to the squad following suspension while the Foxes have been playing knock-out football for weeks. Modbury should be favourites but its a Grand Final, and anything could happen!

The Jets and the Foxes have met twice during the season with Modbury prevailing 3-0 away – Taylor Martyn, Shaun McGreevy and Josh Farrell were on the scoresheet – before grabbing a tightly contested 1-0 home win in Round 17 courtesy of 79th minute winner from Josh Farrell.
